We do our training sessions through Pawsitive Dog Academy-Because every dog deserves an education!

Did you know that of the dogs that end up in shelters that approximately 95% have never had any type of professional training?  And that 85% of dogs surrendered to shelters and rescues are due to behavioral problems?

To prevent our dogs from getting returned to the rescue, all of our dogs or puppies come with a private training session.  The training session is given by our Executive Director, Beki Myers, a Certified Dog Training Instructor, Member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and Member of The Pet Professionals Guild--an organization for Force Free Trainers.  She has attended numerious seminars by the leading behaviorists and trainers in the field including Dr. Ian Dunbar, Dr. Sophia Yin, Dr. Patricia McConnell, Nicole Wilde and Trish King.

Beki has been a certified dog trainer for 8 years using positive reinforcement methods, which are the same that we use to work with our dogs in rescue and require adopters to use with their new family member.  These methods are scientifically proven to be the most effective methods when it comes to training everything from basic manners to solving the most difficult of behavioral problems, including areas of aggression.  And these methods also have the least possibility of back firing on you which can happen with corrective methods that are based off of outdated and more importantly, disproven, theories focused on dominance and wolf-pack structure.

Following the adoption, Beki will set up a time to come to your home for a one-on-one private training session to help you and your new dog with anything that has come up since the adoption and also set up a structure for the dog as well as go over some initial commands.  Your first session is included in the adoption and future sessions can be scheduled at a reduced rate.
